Professional info
I have worked for 25 years with both rural and urban water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion (WASH) in Africa, Central and South America and recently the Asia Pacific Region. I undertook my undergraduate, post-graduate diploma, Masters and PhD studies respectively at University of East Anglia, Silsoe College, Reading & Cranfield Universities. I am driven by a passion for people, politics and the environment. I have pursued these goals through working with a wide range of NGOs, consulting companies and governments. Working from both an engineering and social development perspective, I have been involved with project and programme design, appraisal, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, action research and policy development.
I have published a number of papers, articles and reports relating to my work including my PhD thesis “Achieving sustained beneficial outcomes from water and sanitation programmes in the Developing World” which is available on the IRC.nl website. I have also stood for the Liberal Democrats for Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon in 2016, as well as for the UK Parliament for both North Wiltshire (2015) and North Somerset (2010). My interest with these ventures has been, as with my work with WASH, to encourage and empower people to build a better world.
