This related to the MSc course in Community Water and Sanitation which Richard Carter and colleagues started in 1989, and the associated research, training and consultancy activities. Numerous academic, technical and administrative staff of the university contributed to this work, and Richard was directly involved in a number of leadership and support capacities between 1989 and 2015.
In September 2016 Richard Carter was given the Applied Hydrogeology Award of the International Association of Hydrogeologists.
